Models, sketches and material experiments for my first proposal(s) created during the residence at Creatorium in March 2017.
The plan was to create a landscape with pieces of asphalt scattered around in a dune/dyke landscape. The dunes are about 20 km from the city of Alkmaar. For the decision of the placement of the dunes I took an old map of Alkmaar and used the lines of the former waters (small canals and ditches) to use as the placement for the dune walls. Dunes and Dykes are the most important structures to protect The Netherlands from the sea. The location was next to the Noord-Hollands Kanaal, which is located near the former ‘West-Frisian ringdyke’. The Dune walls would be approx. 3,50 meter high to create a place in the city to wander around. Coming across the meteorite looking asphalt pieces that, presented in this landscape of dunes, resembling a Japanese stone garden.
